Join the Co-Founders of the Replaying Communism project to explore their new edited volume and to discuss their findings.

The contributors to Replaying Communism: Trauma and Nostalgia in European Cultural Production (CEU Press, 2026) ask searching questions about the continuing legacy of communist regimes in Central and Eastern Europe today, as reflected in a wide range of contemporary culture from museums to computer games. The contributions are united by their shared interest in the relationship between the traumatic and the nostalgic in the negotiation of memory, and by their insistence on the ongoing nature of the 'transition' from state socialism to market capitalism.

The Co-Founders of the Replaying Communism project, Dr Lucy Jeffery and Dr Anna Váradi, will present the volume and discuss their findings with Dr Tetyana Pavlush and Professor David Clarke.

This event is jointly hosted by the History and Heritage Research theme in the School of Modern Languages, the Remembering the Future Research Group in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Central and Eastern Europe Centre at Cardiff University.
