Quaking Earth: understanding and coping with a dangerous planet
Speaker
Dr Lara Mani
University of Cambridge
Our returning public lecture series for 2025/2026 explores the theme "Quaking Earth: understanding and coping with a dangerous planet".
Earthquakes and the geological hazards they trigger, including landslides and tsunamis pose serious threats to communities around the world, disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable in society.
Understanding the complex geological processes that shape the probability and magnitude of earthquakes is key to improving proactive disaster risk reduction measures. Through this series, we will explore how groundbreaking Earth and environmental research is helping us understand our dynamic Earth, navigate disaster preparedness, and build more resilient communities.
