A creative workshop, exploring the history of the DDA and personal experiences
| Join us for a creative celebration marking 30 years of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). This workshop, led by disabled artists and researchers, honours the activism that led to the DDA and reflects on its legacy and the progress of disability rights since 1995.
The event begins with a short introduction to the DDA and the history of disability activism in the UK, followed by a creative workshop, making banners, placards, and flags on themes of disability, inclusion, and protest. Individuals will be supported by workshop facilitators. A joyful birthday party for the Disability Discrimination Act will follow - complete with music, cake, and community connection can also be booked here The event is supported by research from Swansea University and Cardiff University and draws on upcoming work by historian Prof David Turner (Disability: A History of Resistance, The Bodley Head / Vintage Books). |
This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 6 - 15 November 2025. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
