Dr Alex Copley joins us from Cambridge University to examine how cutting-edge Earth and environmental science research is helping us to understand our dynamic Earth, inform disaster preparedness, and build more resilient communities.

Speaker

Dr Alex Copley
Cambridge University

Our public lecture series returns for 2025/2026 exploring the theme of "Quaking Earth: understanding and coping with a dangerous planet".

Earthquakes and the geological hazards they trigger, including landslides and tsunamis pose serious threats to communities worldwide, disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable in society.

Understanding the complex geological processes that shape the likelihood and magnitude of earthquakes is key to improving proactive disaster risk reduction measures. Through this series, we’ll examine how cutting-edge Earth and environmental science research is helping us to understand our dynamic Earth, inform disaster preparedness, and build more resilient communities.
