An immersive sound and photography installation sharing stories of people who are blind or partially sighted and the impact this has on their lives.

Eight Voices in Darkness is a powerful sensory installation exploring the hidden crisis of sight loss and its mental health impact.

By 2030, over 2.7 million people in the UK will face untreatable sight loss - often accompanied by undiagnosed depression.

Members of the public are invited to engage with lived experiences of visual impairment through this immersive sound and photography exhibition. Developed by researchers at Cardiff University and Anglia Ruskin University in collaboration with artist, Richard Bowers, and Sight Life’s Photography Club, the exhibition captures deeply personal reflections on the impact of vision impairment - offering rare insight into a marginalised reality often overlooked in mental health services.

All are welcome to explore how vision impairment shapes lives and identities. Hear real voices. Feel real impact. It’s a chance to listen, reflect, learn and understand. 10am-9pm every day, 6th - 8th November

This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 6-15 November 2025. Being Human is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
