A free interactive discussion panel to explore and imagine historical video games
Video games allow us to experience history, transporting us to Medieval villages, Victorian London, and the Wild West. But integrating history into games isn’t easy. Can we balance realism with accessibility, or authenticity with more diverse and inclusive stories? Can “real history” inspire new games?
Join Cardiff University researchers and writers to answer these questions, and celebrate your favourite games.
Our panel includes experts in historical authenticity in video game marketing, play and game narrative design, a games writer and researcher of war in games, and researcher of game dialogue.
You’ll learn about how humanities researchers approach games, possible career paths, and how to form deeper connections with games you love.
You’ll also get an opportunity to develop and pitch your own ideas for historically-themed games with other passionate gamers, and meet others interested in historic gameplay.
Suitable for ages 16+
