Explore motherhood, infant feeding, care and more in this interactive quilt-making exhibition.
| We invite you to join a collaborative craft workshop and discussion exploring the emotional realities of motherhood and infant feeding. This interactive session offers a space for parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to reflect on their own experiences, explore the tension between lived realities and public health messaging, and connect with others in a safe, supportive environment for storytelling.
Everyone who has experienced motherhood is welcome, and we hope this event offers a meaningful opportunity to share, listen, and build community. We want to create a piece that tells diverse motherhood stories and highlights whose voices are often underrepresented. In this event we will combine craft, conversation, and community, to reimagine how maternal care and infant feeding experiences are understood and supported in Wales. Following the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to interact with Motherhood Q(G)uilt, a touch-interactive quilt embedded with the voices of 12 new mothers in Wales- a unique way to share the emotional realities of infant feeding. Made from donated baby clothes, the quilt activates audio recordings that reveal honest, often unspoken stories of guilt, pressure, and resilience. This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 6 - 15 November 2025. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with generous support from Research England, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
