Join us for an evening of traditional Javanese music played on our very own Gamelan.
Meaning ‘red dragon’ in Javanese, Naga Abang is the University’s Gamelan ensemble, focusing on a mixture of classical Javanese repertoire and popular Javanese genres. As the bronze percussion instruments of Java and Bali, Gamelan consists of an array of gongs and other percussion instruments mixed with vocalists and is taught using ear, memorisation and notation.
Under the direction of Pete Smith, Naga Abang will perform their first concert of the year covering a range of Javanese repertoire in an intimate setting.
Places for this are limited, so please book as soon as possible.
